Salzburg and Croatia

Its only a week since we left home, but with the amount we have crammed in during that time it feels as though we have been away for a lot longer.
So far we have covered 7 countries and approx 1200 miles since we set off, now that we are in Croatia we have a couple of rest days and of course the start of the world cup.
The sound of music tour was excellent, visiting some of the more recognisable locations from the movie and managing to fit in some singing on the coach as we travelled around. Did you know that the house and garden scenes were filmed in two separate locations so when you see Maria in the garden talking to Herr Von Trapp with his back to the house they were some considerable distance apart! That's Hollywood for you.
On our return to Salzburg we went to the Augustina Keller, a monastery that brews beer, although its quite a convoluted process to get one. You have to pay first then collect a tankard, then dip it in a fountain to get the tankard to the right temperature then take it to the bar to get your beer. It'll never catch on in Wetherspoons!
On Wednesday we drove from Austria to Croatia through Slovenia. It was a stunning drive through the alps and we made a quick stop to set foot on Slovenian soil.
The campsite we are staying on in Croatia is enormous but we are only a short stroll from the beech. We have managed to bronze our bodies for a couple of days - well Bob has I've just gone very pink.
We bought ourselves a couple of Croatia football shirts for the match last night. It was a good atmosphere and the locals were very excited so it was a shame the match didn't go their way. After travelling all this way to watch the match in Croatia we almost got our timings wrong. Thinking the match kicked off at 11pm local time we sauntered down to the big marquee where the match was being shown just before 10pm to do a recce, just as the national anthems were being played. Perfect timing!
I'm writing this blog laid on a lounger overlooking the bay around Porec in glorious sunshine, just thinking about taking a dip in the pool, although there could quite possibly be a gentle hiss as my red flesh hits the cool water!
Spain v Holland tonight should be a good un, then off to Venice tomorrow for the start of England's campaign, some sight seeing and the opera.
We are continuing to post pictures on Facebook so keep having a look to see what we are up to and read about the mushrooms in the pan saga.
