As we were unable to secure tickets for the World Cup finals in Brazil, this trip is our alternative World Cup European adventure. We plan to watch as many matches in as many different countries as possible, starting with the opening game (Croatia v Brazil) in Croatia and then on to Italy for England's first game against the Azzuri. I will update the blog as we travel to let you know of our highs and greater highs as Roy's boys progress through to the final in Rio - well you can dream! If you can't wait for the blog to be updated follow me on Twitter to get the latest updates.
We are not fluent in any language (apart from Yorkshire), but I'm sure over a few beers we will be able to have many a meaningful discussion with football fans from all countries about results, players and of course the inevitable controversial decisions.
Stopping off points will include Allianz Arena (Munich), San Siro (AC & Inter Milan), Nou Camp (Barcelona) and Bernabeu (Madrid), to see how these stadiums compare to Hillsborough and Bramall Lane. We will also check out how the trophy rooms of these footballing super powers compare with our European counterparts!

There are many other activities planned as we travel; the Barber of Seville (not for a haircut) in Venice, the Alhambra in Granada and the first word war battlefields in Ypres. We will experience the Bull Run in Pamplona and end up at the BBK music festival in Bilbao.
I know it all sounds like hard work, so we have built in a few beach breaks, to relax and forget about the pressures and strains always associated with watching England play football.
Below is a map of the route that Bob and I will be taking as we travel through Europe. We will be driving through 9 countries covering approximately 3500 miles (assuming we don't get lost).
The map is interactive, it can be enlarged and if you click on a location a dialogue box will pop up to give you some information. The top of the dialogue box will give you our 'tour' information e.g. the days we arrive and depart, what we will be doing in the city plus any links to relevant websites. There is also some general information about the city itself.
I hope you enjoy following us as much as we will enjoy the trip.

* Post trip note - although we hoped England would do well, our back up plan was to ensure that we were in Spain for the final, on the assumption that if England didn't get there Spain would. Of course we could never have predicated that Spain would get knocked out before England!!
