Of Course I'm Not Lost!

I realised as I unpacked at my Airbnb that I'd forgotten my toothpaste. Now is this bad, but I was sharing a bathroom with another guest, who conveniently had left his toothpaste out. So the phrase 'necessity is the mother of invention came to mind', and not knowing if I would pass a shop selling toothpaste on my journey, having taken a small blob to clean my teeth that night, I decided I needed to fill the lid of my deodorant just in case! I smoothed the tube back as best as I could. I think I got away with it! He was probably thinking bloody hell you don't get as much toothpaste for your money these days!

I got an early start today, I officially had 14 miles to walk to Littleton Drew, but I had to add a further 2 miles to get to my accommodation in Grittleton. I was staying in a pub called the Neeld Arms, it brands itself as 'Proud to be a Proper Pub' and I have to concur it is, it's a lovely pub with 4 real ales (a true measure of a good pub). I will do my best to get through these tonight, after all I only have to stagger upstairs.

I crossed from Gloucestershire to Wiltshire today, and passed close to Highgrove House, I thought about popping in to have a chat with Charley, but decided it was too far out of my way and instead stopped at a nice little pub in Sherston, Carpenters Arms - roast pork sandwiches with roast potatoes, life is good!

Views of the National
Arboretum
I also passed through the National Arboretum at Westonbirt, now call my ignorant (I've been called worse!) but I didn't even know there was a National Arboretum. I had to do Google search to find out about it. It was founded by the Holford family back in the Victorian heyday of plant hunting. It boasts 15,000 tree specimens and 2,500 species. Although I don't get a chance to have a proper look around, there were some lovely glimpses through the trees.

The afternoon walking, was definitely more challenging today, it wasn't particularly up and down, but lots of paths that were not well walked and with no clearly defined path. I could have done with a scythe to clear the way as I walked along. It was also noticeable that the humidity had increased as well. Thunderstorms are forecast for tomorrow, which will be good to clear the air, but not great for us Long Distance Walkers!

I must have a very vacant expression when checking maps and instructions etc as I have been asked three times over the last couple of days, if I'm lost or if I know where I'm going. One chap was driving is Range Rover through a village and just stopped in the middle of the road to check. That's really good, but being a man, even if I was lost, I wouldn't be able to admit it!

Well roll on tomorrow, the forecast has changed and its now thundery showers for early in the morning, and things don't look too bad after that, Fingers crossed. A relatively short walk to Box tomorrow, but it would be nice to avoid the rain.
